Quick answer: write a trip checklist first
Record the hours away from power, exposure conditions, exact speakers you want to connect, and whether calls or home Wi-Fi playback matter. Step 1: budget ordinary runtime and a reserve
Write down the hours of actual playback, your likely volume and a charging opportunity. JBL quotes 14 hours plus two with Playtime Boost; Bose quotes 12 hours at moderate volume; Sonos quotes ten hours at moderate volume. These are separate manufacturer conditions. A mode extending runtime may alter your chosen sound setting, and calling or temperature may change endurance. Build reserve into the trip rather than converting “up to” into a guaranteed clock.
Inspect the box contents and the power supply: a cable is not an adapter. Sonos and Bose list included cables but separate adapters. Confirm a suitable power source before travel.
Step 2: read the IP claim and drying directions
JBL claims IP68 for Flip 7 and Bose and Sonos IP67 for these exact models. Read each manufacturer’s stated liquid and test conditions. Water protection does not guarantee that a wet charging port may be energized immediately, nor does it establish performance after repeated impact or seal wear. Dry and clean as directed. If the destination involves saltwater, sunscreen or repeated drops, find explicit maker guidance rather than stretching a freshwater lab claim.
Step 3: trace the whole connection
Write down the current speaker’s exact model. JBL’s Flip 7 can make stereo with another Flip 7 and group compatible JBL Auracast speakers. Bose says Stereo Mode requires identical speakers and offers a distinct Party Mode. Sonos Wi-Fi grouping requires app and network setup; its Bluetooth travel path is separate. Do not treat Bose source-device switching, stereo pairing and Sonos multiroom as the same feature.
For calls, the non-SE Bose Flex 2nd Gen has a documented microphone and HFP. The newer SE variant is an important exception. Check the exact retailer listing, rather than inferring call support from “Flex” or Bluetooth.
